St. Jacobs day trips from Toronto

St. Jacobs Market has been running since 1977 and is still the most genuinely interesting farmers’ market in the country — produce from Mennonite farms, baked goods priced like it is still 1990, and a level of life happening that cannot be manufactured.

It is the gentlest day we run. No hike, no permit, no gear: a market, a river trail and a village.

the car problem

Getting to St. Jacobs without a car

Waterloo Region is reachable by train, but the market is outside the city and the connection eats the morning you came for. Door-to-door coach means you arrive when the market is actually busy.

The St. Jacobs highlights

St. Jacobs Farmers' Market

Canada’s largest, running since 1977. Produce, cheese, meat, crafts and the apple fritter window.

Mennonite farms and bakeries

The reason the produce is what it is. The village bakeries are worth the second walk through.

Conestogo River trail

Flat, green and quiet along the edge of the village — enough to forget you spent the morning in a crowd.

The village

Small, walkable, and full of the kind of shops that survive because they are actually good.
