Two very different days in the same region. Niagara Falls is the obvious one, and it earns it — but the water upstream is where the Class 5 rapids are, and the land north of it is orchard and vineyard all the way to the lake.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is the counterweight: flat back-roads, family estates that have been pouring for three generations, and an Old Town worth an hour on foot.
Niagara is reachable by transit, but a day built around a jet boat launch, a timed winery tasting and bike pickup does not survive a transfer schedule. Everything here is pre-booked in sequence, so the day fits into one day.
A proper look at the Canadian side before the day moves upriver. Photographs, mist, the whole thing.
Class 5 rapids in boat pods of four to six, which means no queueing and everyone gets the same soaking ride.
Nineteenth-century streets, lunch, and free time before the coach heads back.
Flat, quiet cycling lined with fruit trees on both sides — a 12 km route that leaves your legs intact.
Blossom on the orchard routes and thinner crowds at the Falls.
Jet boat weather. Getting drenched stops being a problem and becomes the point.
Harvest in the vineyards — the best time for the tastings and the bike ride.
The jet boat and wine day is the adrenaline version — the Falls, Class 5 rapids and a tasting. The orchard bike ride is the slow version: flat cycling, a family winery and al fresco lunch.
Completely. Bring a dry change of clothes; there is time built into the day to change afterwards.
No. The route is flat, about 12 km, on hybrid bikes with helmets provided. It is rated easy.
